Overview of Strawberry Creek Meeting Computer Resources
Strawberry Creek's Electronic Resources
Several members and attenders have asked our Electronic Resources
Committee to provide more written documentation and other assistance to
help Friends use our web pages, email newsgroup, file sharing, on-line
calendar, and other electronic resources. In response to those
requests, we have begun to revise and develop a set of web pages that
everyone can use for reference -- either on-line and/or on paper. This
brief article will give an overview of our major electronic resources
and where you can find more information about each of them, as well as
how people who do not use computers can make use of these resources via
other Strawberries.
Web Pages
Strawberry Creek Meeting currently has two sets of web pages:
- a public set of web pages under
http://quaker.org/strawberrycreek/ ;
and
- a semi-private set of web pages and other materials under
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StrawberryCreek/.
Anyone with a web browser can look at our public web pages, which
includes links to
- an overview of our Meeting (including its structure with
officers, representatives, and committees),
- on-line documentation and instructions,
- our semi-private StrawberryCreek yahoo group pages,
- our Oakland Worship Group's web page,
- Dime-A-Gallon web pages,
- public news highlights (e.g., public community calendar, public
Minutes), and
- web sites for other Quaker organizations.
In order to view and use our yahoo group web pages, files, and email
archive you must have a login and password -- except for the top level
page at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StrawberryCreek/
Shared Files
When you log into our Strawberry Creek Yahoo group, you can browse and
read a number of different types of information, including past issues
of the Strawberry Creek Newsletter, an archive of email messages sent
to our email newsgroup, photos, and copies of various Meeting
documents.
Email Newsgroup
Another feature of our Strawberry Creek Yahoo group is an email
newsgroup. Once you have a yahoo login and have been added to our
Strawberry Creek Yahoo group, you can send email to
StrawberryCreek@yahoogroups.com, which automatically gets sent to all
members of the group -- except those who have chosen not to receive
such email messages. Each member of the group can set an option that
indicates whether s/he wishes to receive each email message as soon as
it comes to the group, a "digest" set of messages once a day, or only
to view messages via the web archive.

If You Don't Use Computers
Strawberry Creek Meeting wants to make sure that everyone has access to
our electronic resources, including Members and Attenders who do not
use computers. If you don't use computers, but would like specific
information (such as particular documents) or general services (such as
notification about important email newsgroup messages), we can try to
pair you up with a "computer buddy" who uses Strawberry Creek's
electronic resources and can help you make use of them.
Computer Volunteers Needed
In order to help Strawberries who don't use computers or who would like
assistance with using our electronic resources, we need volunteers who
might be willing to help provide such assistance from time to time. We
would also be glad to get names of Strawberries who can provide more
extensive computer services for a fee, to whom we can refer people who
wish more extensive help.
